Sergei Prokofiev: Peter and the Wolf, Op. 67, a music tale for children

(For everyone from six years onwards)

Should I obey my grandfather and stay safely at home, or should I open the door and venture into the alluring unknown? Questions like this plague every child sooner or later. Curious Peter decides to jump into the unknown, but quickly realises that this requires a lot of courage and responsibility.

The musical fairy tale Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev is one of the most popular concert pieces for children. In addition to its captivating and witty story, it offers a unique introduction to the world of musical instruments. Each character in the story is represented by a specific musical instrument and theme: the bird is represented by the flute, the duck by the oboe, the cat by the clarinet, the wolf by the horn, the grandfather by the bassoon, and Peter is represented by all of the instruments together. This timeless work demonstrates Prokofiev’s brilliant ability to masterfully combine a tense story, a sparkling composition and a training in classical music.

With a selection of top Slovenian instrumentalists joined by narrator Tilen Artač, the performance promises a tense and witty evening for the whole family!
